Ideas need to be fueled with lots of energy to grow and become significant successes. Total offers to bring this energy through a global challenge aimed at young entrepreneurs within social innovation-related ecosystems. Sparknews is proud to be part of this Challenge, that puts social innovation to the forth in nearly 60 countries worldwide.
After a successful first edition in 34 African French-speaking countries where Total has established, this Challenge is a unique opportunity for local entrepreneurs who address the major issues of our times.
Total wishes to support ideas and projects which offer positive solutions to social issues such as public health, access to electricity or democratization of education. Among last year’s prize winners were a project of biomass bricks made of recycled agricultural wastes 🇸🇳, portable solar pumps 🇪🇬, and an emergency app for pregnant women 🇨🇲.
You can participate in this contest if you are 35 or younger and are a national of the country where you compete. The project has to either be an idea or a startup launched within the last two years. The social and societal impact, the innovative aspects and the feasibility will be decisive criteria for the panel to pick the winners.

These local relays will carry the heavy responsibility to review the applications of the candidates in their country in January 2019 in order to select the finalists.
The lucky laureates of the Startupper of Year Challenge will benefit from financial support, visibility, and coaching for their project. The panel will also award among the finalists a Top Female Entrepreneur in each country. In the first edition of the Challenge in 2016-2017, only 13% of the participants were female.
